This year, Trinity will once again open its doors to welcome 144 guests over twelve nights. We could use your help!

Since 1996, the Urban Ministry Center has partnered with colleges and congregations of many faiths to open their facilities to provide shelter and food for homeless people during the winter months. As part of the Room in the Inn program, each site offers a warm, safe place to sleep, serves three meals (dinner, breakfast and bag lunch) and then returns guests the following morning to uptown Charlotte.

For many years now, Trinity has been a partner site for the Room in the Inn program, and this year we will once again open our doors and welcome 144 guests over twelve nights. However, we need your help. Whether it’s providing financial assistance or donations for our program (which enables Trinity to provide socks, hats, t-shirts, and gloves to our guests), serving as a driver to and from Urban Ministry, or staying overnight as one of our overnight hosts, there are many opportunities to serve. Trinity friends and families are also welcome to join our guests and volunteers for dinner each Wednesday evening during the Room in the Inn season, though we do ask that you contact the church office first to ensure we have enough.

During 2017-18, our nights to host are: December 6, 13, and 27, January 10, 24, and 31, February 7, 21, and 28, March 7, 14, and 21.

Room In the Inn is made possible by the generosity of our congregation who share their time to help host our guests. Please consider volunteering in one or more of the following ways, aside from the Overnight Hosts all positions are family friendly and great ways to get kids of any age involved in this important ministry.

Overnight Host— 2 Overnight Hosts spend the night at church beginning with dinner with our guests and ending with breakfast in the morning (6p-6a). Enjoy watching a movie, playing a game of cards, helping with homework or having a conversation until its time to head to bed at 10p. Overnight hosts help our guests feel welcome and answer questions about the site.

Transportation— Provide a ride to Trinity from uptown on Wednesday night (arrive at 4:45p) or from Trinity to the Transportation Center on Thursday morning (6a) for 3-4 guests.

Breakfast Crew— Provide a nourishing breakfast for our guest by bringing on Wednesday morning or making the overnight cook casserole the night before.

Laundry— Help us clean up and prepare for our next RITI night by cleaning the towels and sheets used the previous night. Towels and sheets will be separated and volunteers are asked to take them home or to a laundromat with a friend or their family and bring back in time for RITI the next week.

Lunches–Work with or gather together a group to assemble bag lunches for our Room in the Inn guests. Usually dropped off on Tuesday.

Dinner Hosts– Dinner hosts come between 5:30-6 to setup and serve dinner then eat with our guests and enjoy conversation before helping cleanup and departing around 7:30. This is a great way to get involved in Room In the Inn, families of all ages are welcome.
